Montessori for Real Life, the Book Series

Montessori for Real Life is a series of three short, practical Montessori books for parents, one for each stage from birth to 6. They’re written for the home you actually have, with a small budget, little time, siblings, a job and days that don’t go to plan. No special furniture, no wooden material catalog, no perfect playroom.

Each book tells you what your child is working on right now, what a normal day can look like, what to say in the hard moments and what to set up at home. You can read a chapter during a nap and try something the same afternoon.

What’s Inside Each Book

Cover of The Everyday Montessori Baby, book 1 of Montessori for Real Life

Book 1 · 0 to 18 months · 106 pages

The Everyday Montessori Baby

The first 18 months change faster than any other time, and most advice either stops at the first birthday or asks you to buy a nursery full of wooden toys. This book follows your baby stage by stage, from the quiet weeks after birth to a walking, climbing, “doing it myself” one-year-old, with what helps at each step and what you can skip.

What you’ll find

  • Four age modules, 0 to 3, 3 to 6, 6 to 9 and 9 to 18 months, each with a sample day
  • Floor time, mobiles, tummy time and the movement sequence, explained simply
  • Safe sleep and first foods in line with pediatric guidance, the floor bed done safely
  • The home room by room, a starter kit by age and an easy toy rotation
  • Straight answers on crying, pacifiers, screens, daycare and milestones

Free with the book

High-contrast cards, DIY mobile templates and an 18-month planner.

Cover of The Everyday Montessori Toddler, book 2 of Montessori for Real Life

Book 2 · 18 months to 3 years · 104 pages

The Everyday Montessori Toddler

Your toddler isn’t giving you a hard time. They’re having one. Around 18 months, children discover they’re a separate person with a will of their own, and it rarely happens quietly. This book explains what’s really going on and gives you clear, kind ways through it, without punishments, bribes or endless negotiating.

What you’ll find

  • A step-by-step tantrum guide, before, during and after, including meltdowns in public
  • Limits without punishments or rewards, with the exact words to use at each age
  • Dressing, eating and tidying without the daily battle, with sample days at 20 months and 2½ years
  • Language milestones, what helps speech grow and when to ask your pediatrician
  • 24 activities made with things you already have, and straight answers on daycare, screens, biting and the potty

Free with the book

Picture routine cards, 24 activity cards, a what-to-say poster and a three-day tantrum tracker.

Cover of The Everyday Montessori Preschooler, book 3 of Montessori for Real Life

Book 3 · 3 to 6 years · 122 pages

The Everyday Montessori Preschooler

Between 3 and 6, your child builds language, self-control, friendships and the feeling that they can do things, and it rarely looks like progress while it’s happening. This book shows what your child is working on and what to do on the hard days, from the endless “why” to the first goodbyes at the school door.

What you’ll find

  • What your child is building between 3 and 6, with CDC milestones and Normal, Watch, Ask boxes
  • Not listening, meltdowns and hitting, the calm corner, and what to do when you lose it
  • The after-school crash, with a simple plan for the first hour
  • Real jobs by age, letters, sounds and numbers in fifteen five-minute games, no worksheets
  • Choosing a school, getting ready for kindergarten, friends, siblings and playdates

Free with the book

A ready-for-school list, a letters and numbers starter kit, a calm home toolkit and the book’s pages to copy.

What Every Book Gives You

  • A sample day for your child’s stage. Not a strict schedule, but a picture of how Montessori fits around naps, meals and real life.
  • The one thing to do today. Each module ends with “If you only have 5 minutes” and a quick reference page you can find again in thirty seconds.
  • What to say, word for word. Phrases for the moments that go wrong, from the meltdown at the store to the coat that won’t go on.
  • Common mistakes, without the guilt. What most parents try first, why it backfires and what to do instead.
  • The hard questions, answered straight. Screens, daycare, sleep, biting, siblings and the questions nobody asks out loud.
  • Activities that cost almost nothing. Built from what’s already in your kitchen, closet and recycling bin.

How the Series Follows Your Child

Stage What your child is working on Where to read
0 to 3 months Feeling safe, looking at faces, first movements on the floor The Everyday Montessori Baby, module 1 (free online)
3 to 18 months Reaching, rolling, crawling, first foods, first steps and the first “no” The Everyday Montessori Baby, modules 2 to 4
18 months to 3 years “No,” “me do it,” tantrums, language explosion, doing things alone The Everyday Montessori Toddler
3 to 6 years Self-control, friendships, the “why,” letters and numbers, starting school The Everyday Montessori Preschooler

Each book stands on its own. Start with the one that matches your child today, and move to the next when your child does.

Who the Series Is For

These books are for parents and caregivers who like the Montessori idea of respect, independence and a calm home, but don’t have hours to read theory or money for a Montessori room. They work whether your child goes to a Montessori school, a regular daycare or stays home with you. Grandparents and nannies like them too, and each book has a one-page note written for them.

If you want the full Montessori philosophy explained in depth, longer books do that better. We compared both approaches in Simone Davies’ books vs The Everyday Montessori, down to the price. For more reading ideas, see our list of the best books on Montessori education.
